National Trust for Historic Preservation Nomination of Hangar One, Moffett Field, California To Whom It May Concern: Hangar One at Moffett Field, California, has been an important part of our community since its construction in 1933. It is one of the most identifiable, architecturally distinguished landmarks of Silicon Valley, which makes it critically important to our visual landscape and, thus, well worth preserving for future generations.
The City of Mountain View has long
supported the concept of creating a world-class science and technology
learning center, the California Air and Space Center The City is well aware that locating SpaceWorld Hangar 1 in Hangar One provides unique opportunities but also significant challenges because of its deteriorated condition and the recent discovery of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) contaminants in the structure. Nevertheless, having a world-class learning center in an historic structure of this magnitude will educate and invigorate future generations about the sacrifices and virtues of space exploration and Silicon Valley's accomplishments. Sincerely,
Matt Pear
